We went 45 miles today and we have reached 1000 total miles. During this trip we have really gotten a good geography and history lesson along the way. Not to mention, we ALWAYS look at the topological map when planning our day. I forgot to mention Sue and her husband, who we met in Butte the other day. We had a great talk with them. Later she brought us over trail mix and peanut butter crackers. Today we went through two ghost towns, Nevada City and Virginia City. My fellow teachers, please don't judge my writing skills from this blog because some nights it's all I can do to get down random thoughts! Following are some random comments we have gotten along the way. The number one question we get on a daily basis is, How do you stear those things? One time someone asked Bob, How do you ride a bike with a limp like that? The guy from Israel told us we looked like we were laying on a tanning bed. My tan is like a zebra, tan on top white on the back. We have used 6 tubes of sunscreen.
After talking to other bikers who use Banana Boat, this does seem to be working better. We ate lunch in Virginia City and then headed up yet another pass. The view of the Rocky Mountains was incredible, breathtaking, and awe inspiring! It was a little cloudy so the pictures don't do it justice. Bob and I got off our bikes and just couldn't believe the view! The ride down into Ennis was so pretty. A big thank you goes out to fellow teacher, Traci McCoy who is from Montana. She booked us a room at the Rainbow Valley Lodge. This is the fly fishing Mecca of the United States. We met some awesome people and the owner even drove me in to town to pick up a to go order for supper. What a relaxing evening it was.
